Holiday Calendars
Create holiday calendars in Holiday Ocean 360, add public holidays, assign calendars to departments or regions, and see how they affect leave.
What a holiday calendar does
A holiday calendar is a list of dates that are non-working days for a group of employees. The system uses it to:
- Skip those days when calculating leave duration
- Skip those days when calculating attendance violations
- Show holidays on every employee’s calendar view
Creating a calendar
Open Organization → Holidays → click + New Calendar.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name (e.g., Egypt Public Holidays 2026) |
| Country / region | Optional — used for regional presets |
| Year | The holiday year |
Adding holidays
Inside a calendar, click + Add Holiday. For each entry:
- Date — single day or date range
- Name — e.g.,
Eid al-Fitr - Type — public, religious, company-specific
- Recurring — yes if it repeats annually on the same date
For recurring holidays that shift each year (e.g., lunar calendar dates), leave recurring off and add them year by year.
Assigning a calendar
Two assignment levels:
- Default for the whole organization — set in Organization → Settings
- Per department — open the unit in Org Structure, switch to the Calendar tab in the side panel, pick the calendar
Per-department overrides take precedence. Useful for multi-country teams where each office observes different holidays.
Effect on leave requests
When an employee submits a leave request that spans a holiday:
- The holiday day is excluded from the leave duration count
- The leave is still approved for the full date range, but only working days are deducted from the balance
Tenant settings let HR change this behavior — see Organization → Settings → Leave defaults → Include holidays in leave duration.
